
The Arab League Council will hold tomorrow an emergency meeting at the level of permanent delegates under the chairmanship of Morocco and in the presence of Arab League Secretary-General Dr. Nabil Elaraby to follow up the implementation of Arab foreign ministers’ council’s decision taken at a meeting held on 14 July and called for the halt of the Israeli ongoing aggression on Gaza strip.
A high-powered Palestinian delegation led by Chief Palestinian Negotiator Dr. Saeb Erekat and Member of Fatah Central Committee Azzam al-Ahmed will attend the meeting which will also discuss the developments of aggression.
Arab League Deputy Secretary-General Ambassador Ahmed Ben Helli said the Palestinian delegation will submit a detailed report to the Council on the latest developments of the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the repercussions of the Israeli aggression on the Palestinian people in all aspects, as well as Arab steps that should be taken to support the demands of the Palestinian people and to provide international protection to them as a step in the context of the Palestinian people’s struggle towards independence in response to the request submitted by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
In his remarks to reporters today, Ben Helli said the meeting will also address the progress of indirect negotiations carried out under the auspices of Cairo.
He added that the Arab League Secretary-General will forward a report to the Arab League Council on the contacts and moves made by the Arab League since the first day of the Israeli aggression on Gaza, especially with effective international actors in this regard.
