Arab League permanent representative to UN receives UNCTAD delegation

Permanent Representative for the League of Arab States to the United Nations Sameh Abou Elenin on Monday received a delegation of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva.
The delegation included head of the Assistance to the Palestinian People Unit (APPU) Mahmoud El Khafif.
The meeting dealt with an UNCTAD report that would be presented to the UN General Assembly on economic loses incurred by the Palestinian people due to the Israeli occupation.
The Assistance to the Palestinian People Unit (APPU) was established in 1985, with a specific mandate to monitor and investigate the social and economic impact of policies of the Israeli occupation authorities in the Palestinian territory.
The establishment of APPU crowned the secretariat´s pioneering work on the Palestinian economy which commenced in 1979 upon the request of member States.
This makes UNCTAD the first international organization to systematically examine the Palestinian economy´s multifaceted development predicament.
