Arab Parliament Speaker Ahmad Al-Jarwan on Monday underscored the importance of countering the strange phenomenon of terrorism that threatens the Arab and Muslim world.
In his opening speech at the Arab Parliament third legislative session held here, Al-Jarwan said internal security and stability are the key to comprehensive development for which everybody should work in order to fulfill the expectations and hopes of the Arab people.
He warned that the growing internal conflicts and disputes as well as terrorist attacks are the main obstacles to economic growth, development and prosperity.
In this regard, he reiterated condemnation of the terror attack on Egyptian military sites in Sinai Peninsula in which over 30 soldiers were killed. He also expressed sympathy and solidarity with the relatives of the victims.
On the Palestinian cause, Al-Jarwan condemned Israeli repeated aggressions against Palestinians and Muslim holy sites in the occupied Jerusalem.
He urged the international community to press Israel to stop its attempts to change Arab characteristics on the holy city.
On Syria, he condemned the massacres committed by the Syrian regime against its own people.
Al-Jarwan expressed concern over the current humanitarian situation in the violence-hit country and urged the international community to live up to its due role by taking concrete action in order to stop bloodshed there.
Finally, he called on Iran to positively comply with the UAE call to resolve the Iranian-occupied three islands of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) through direct dialogue or the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
