Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas held a meeting on Sunday with Arab League Secretary General Nabil el Arabi on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories, according to a statement by the Arab League general secretariat.
They discussed ongoing contacts to resume the Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations based on the two-state initiative and international terms of reference.
The meeting took place at Arabi's residence in New York on the sidelines of his participation in the 70th session of the UN General Assembly.
Talks covered continued Israeli violations against Muslim and Christian holy places in East Jerusalem.
On Saturday, Arabi met with EU foreign and security representative Federica Mogherini for talks on the underway Arab and international consultations to hold a ministerial meeting of the international Quartet, due to take place at the end of this month in New York.
The foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Arabi will take part in this meeting for the first time at an invitation from the UN chief.
