The Arab countries in general and Kuwait in particular should support Lebanon in the face of growing challenges, foremost heavy burden caused by influx of Syrian refugees, Kuwait parliament speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim said Tuesday.
"Lebanon, due to the Syrian refugees crisis, is facing something that is beyond the humanitarian disaster, it is something similar to nakba (catastrophe) which required the support of the Arabs, Muslims and friends," Al-Ghanim, also President of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), told reporters before concluding his visit to Lebanon.
"We are carrying a message from His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the Kuwaiti people to our brothers in Lebanon, that we will leave Lebanon alone," he affirmed.
He said his talks with Lebanese parliament speaker Nabih Berri were fruitful, and hoped the burden on the Syrian and Lebanese people would be eased.
Al-Ghanim noted that Lebanon with a population of four million people was hosting 1.1 million registered Syrian refugees. Those not registered might surpass this number, he notedBeirut - KUNA
