Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa denied reports about differences between him and Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb.
During a press conference Thursday, Gomaa announced the formation of a higher committee to renew the religious discourse comprising scholars from Al Azhar and the Awqaf Ministry, writers and media persons.
The committee's objective will be building moderate and tolerate personalities and adopting modest religious, cultural and social thinking, he said.
He lashed out at calls by Daesh militants on rewriting the Quran and Sunnah, describing them as mercenaries and proxy fighters against Muslim countries.
He condemned the idle stance of international human rights organizations on the barbaric murder of Jordanian pilot Moaz al Kasasbeh, who was burned alive by Daesh terrorists.
He said the first meeting of the 'world modesty and tolerance forum' will take place at the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs ahead of the council's international conference scheduled for February 28.
