Grand Imam of Al Azhar Sheikh Ahmed Al Tayyeb called on the international community on Friday to shoulder its responsibility towards putting an end to the misery of millions of Syrians.
In a statement, Tayyeb voiced deep sorrow over the popular image of the death of a Syrian child who was found dead on Turkish shores.
The picture of the child Elan Kurdi would continue to be shameful for the whole mankind, Tayyeb said, adding that history would always remember that world major powers left millions of humans to face death.
He called for an urgent regional and international move to help hundreds of thousands of refugees and on world countries to open their borders and offer safe havens for the displaced.
