Al Azhar undersecretary Abbas Shoman received Sunday Australian Ambassador in Cairo Neil Hawkins to probe aspects of cooperation between Al Azhar and Australia.
The Australian envoy praised a visit by the Azhar official to Australia, saying it was a positive step for clarifying Al Azhar’s methodology representing the voice of moderate Islam around the world.
Australia is looking forward to promoting cooperation between Al Azhar and Islamic institutions in Australia, Hawkins said.
Shoman said he had meetings with Australians and representatives of non-Muslim and Muslim communities during his visit of Australia in December.
Al Azhar is ready to communicate with Australian religious institutions to train Australian imams on contemporary causes and challenges, he added.
