Prosecution said that it received on Monday an official letter from the General Directorate of Criminal Investigations and Forensic Evidence accusing an opposition chief of promoting regime change in the kingdom of Bahrain through hatred and violence.
Prosecutor Nayef Mahmoud said in a statement that this opposition chief has been charged with "promoting regime change by force, illegal ways and threats, and with insulting Ministry of Interior." Mahmoud said that the chief was also charged with fomenting people to violate the law.
The chief called for foreign interference by urging powers to intervene in Bahrain to back him in his bid to change the regime under the pretext that this move will achieve the country's interest, prosecutor added.
Mahmoud said that prosecution opened investigations in all accusations against the chief after it was briefed on his speeches and words, noting that four lawyers were allowed to meet him in private on Monday.
Prosecution accused the chief of promoting regime change in the kingdom by force, threats and other illegal means, he said. Prosecution summoned on Sunday Ali Salman, head of main opposition group Al-Wefaq, to investigate him.
