The Kingdom of Bahrain has affirmed its firm stance towards the Palestinian issue, based on the need to implement the resolutions of the UN Security Council and General Assembly and the relevant international laws. In a statement during the Security Council’s periodic Open Dbate on the Middle East, Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Jamal Fares Al-Ruwaie noted that His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa had affirmed the Kingdom’s unwavering commitment to the principles of peace, freedom, justice, self-determination and co-existence, the implementation of the resolutions of international legitimacy and promoting consensus and moderation. He stressed that Bahrain would continue its tireless efforts to ensure that the brotherly Palestinian people receives its inalienable rights. Ambassador Al-Ruwaie added that the Kingdom welcomed the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ signing of documents to pave the way for the State of Palestine to join UN agencies, and considered the move as a legitimate step, in light of Israel’s intransigence and reluctance in implementing the agreements signed with the Palestinians. He pointed out that the international efforts would be fruitless unless a viable and just solution, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, was reached. He added that the peaceful resolution of the Middle East crisis should necessarily lead to ending Israel’s occupation of Arab lands, in accordance with the relevant UN Security resolutions. He also welcomed the reconciliation agreement reached between Fateh and Hamas movements, expressing hope that the move will end the Palestinian internal division and help the brotherly Palestinian people to get its full legitimate rights.
