Bahrain welcomes the democratic development that took place in Egypt and the implementation of the roadmap which started with approving a constitution that reflected the will of the Egyptian people, Bahrain's foreign minister told the United Nations General Assembly on Monday.
"We also welcome the holding of presidential election and the ongoing preparations to hold legislative elections to complete the constitutional institutions of the state," Sheikh Khalid Bin Ahmed Bin Mohammed al-Khalifa told the 69th high-level debate.
He reiterated full rejection of any interference in the internal affairs of Egypt and supported the efforts deployed by Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and the steps he had taken to combat terrorism, preserve the security and stability of Egypt and pursue its strategic and active role at the Arab, regional and international levels.
He also commended the pivotal role played by Egypt to reach a ceasefire in Gaza.
"We highly appreciate its hosting, in collaboration with the Kingdom of Norway, the International Conference of support to Palestine and reconstruction of the Gaza Strip next month. We highly appreciate as well the great role played by UNRWA."
The top diplomat also touched on the surge of terrorism in Iraq and Syria, saying that the accelerated emergence of terrorism groups, political expansionism and the illegal occupation of other States’ territories are hindering sustainable development and require the international community to work together.
Terrorist groups “thrive in our region with greater savagery and callousness,” he added.
"Combating these groups requires the international community to work together along the security and military, ideological and financial axis," he pointed out.
