The cabinet has extended sincere greetings to Bahraini leaders, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the Bahraini people on the advent of Eid Al Fitr.
Today’s regular weekly meeting, chaired at the Gudaibiya Palace by Deputy Premier Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, discussed a number of memoranda, the Minister of State for Information Affairs and the Government’s Official Spokesperson Sameera Ebrahim bin Rajab said.
A memo presented by the Minister of State for Electricity and Water Affairs on the preparations of the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) for the summer of 2014 was discussed.
The report highlighted that the maximum load for the 2014 summer would reach 3,200 megawatts, an increase of 7.7 per cent compared with 2013. The total production capacity available in all production plants is 3,933 megawatts. This is in addition to the possibility of the Kingdom taking advantage of the 600-megawatt electric grid available across the Gulf, the Spokesperson said.
The report also referred to the improvement in the number and duration of power cuts as well as the improvement in the channels of communication with the public.
The average daily water demand for 2014 is expected to be 165 million gallons, while the production capacity is almost 180 million gallons per day. The report also referred to the measures taken by the ministry to deal with water supply interruptions or weaknesses in the water flow, she added.
The cabinet discussed a memorandum presented by the National Authority for Qualifications and Quality Assurance of Education and Training (QQA)that dealt with the results of the 16th review reports of the performance of education and training institutions. The memorandum was presented to the cabinet by the Deputy Prime Minister.
The Committee for Education and Training recommended that the Ministry of Education be called upon to follow-up on private schools and ensure they carry out the necessary improvements.
It called for activating the joint Ministry of Education-QQA Committee to organise more meetings, coordinate their efforts, examine the reasons behind the low grades and find the proper solutions to ensure that National Examinations achieve maximum benefits.
The Ministry of Education and the QQA should agree upon the mechanisms of accreditation.
Another memorandum pertaining to the current traffic situation, the challenges and future requirements, as well as a brief review of the new traffic law, presented by the Minister of Interior, was discussed by the cabinet.
A memorandum presented by the Minister of Works, Engineer showed that 27 tenders at a total cost of BD 57,783, 298 were finalized during the second quarter of 2014.
The overall number of tenders put forward for the quarter was 35 at a total cost of BD 91,144,820. These pertained to road works, sanitation and constructions projects, the Spokesperson said.
