Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al-Khalifa has today urged voters to verify their names and locations ahead of the upcoming polls.
“Voters can verify their names and locations by reporting personally to the respective supervisory committe or through Smartphone applications or online”, he said.
The minister was speaking as he paid inspection visits to the electoral supervisory committees in both Muharraq and the Capital Governorate.
He stressed the importance of the verification process as a basis to finalize rolls and fixed electoral blocs, describing the operation as being successful so far.
In statement today, he said that Wednesday (September30) would be the last day to display electoral rolls. Voters will then be given a three-day deadline (October1, 2,3) to challenge the decisions of the electoral supervisory committees.
He expressed the hope that the phase would end without problems for electoral rolls to be finalized in accordance with respective constituencies.
The minister vowed to take action against calls to boycott the elections, adding that violations are being dealt with according to their nature.
“The minister suspends the preacher who urges voters to boycott the elections”, he said, warning that other measures exceeding suspension would be taken against any violations.
“The ministry is monitoring calls to boycott the upcoming elections”, he said, pointing out that this phase has become obsolete since 2002.
The minister dismissed calls to boycott elections as being “void and rejected”, stressing the importance of voters’ awareness in ensuring democratic voter participation.
He described “early elections propaganda” as being mere social activities as long as approved nominations are not announced officially.
