The Minister of State for Information Affairs and Government's Official Spokesperson Sameera Ebrahim bin Rajab stressed that the 2014 parliamentary and municipal elections in Bahrain have been conducted in complete honesty, transparency, under full judicial supervision and according to democratic standards as recognized throughout the world.
The Minister in a statement to the London-based Al-Hayat newspaper has rejected the opposition's allegations regarding any rigging of recent election results. She challenged anybody to dare describe these elections as dishonest as they have been conducted honestly and democratically as per minutest legal details. She also reiterated Bahrain will remain committed to honest standards as an exemplary democracy.
The Minister said that reforms in Bahrain continue and there is obvious development and progress in terms of responsible freedoms in the Kingdom and the whole region. She emphasized Bahrain's keenness on maintaining the ceiling of freedoms as Bahrainis themselves are capable of protecting their accomplishments and gains.
The Minister added that new MPs who have won the latest parliamentary elections will work on forming their blocs inside the Council of Representatives and to form the opposition within the democratic reform project, pointing out that dialogue between the Government and the opposition who boycotted the elections would be only under the dome of Parliament and with all representatives of the Bahraini people who are concerned with achieving the Bahraini people's demands.
Minister Sameera Ebrahim bin Rajab reiterated the Government's rejection of sectarian divisionism regarding the winning of seats in the new Representatives Council. She said that "We, the children of Bahrain have the same rights, duties and qualifications to deal with opportunities".
The Bahraini street have chosen their representatives, and we are against sectarian classifications and we reject quotas. She said that Bahrain is for all of its citizens who should respect harmony and unity in the country as we have known throughout history, the Minister said.
