An immediate probe has been launched into the death of an inmate in Jaw Prison, according to a statement by the Ombudsman's Office. Preliminary investigations suggested a criminal suspicion surrounding the incident. As a matter of fact, the Ombudsman's Office referred the case to the Special Investigation Unit which itself launched an investigation into the incident.
The Ombudsman's Office extended condolences to the inmate's family, emphasising its follow-up on the investigation procedures in cooperation with the Special Investigation Unit and other relevant parties. The outcome of the investigations will be announced as soon as they are over for the sake of transparency, the Secretariat General affirmed in the statement.
