
Prime Minister of the Kurdistan region asked the United Nations, the international community and the Iraqi government to shoulder their responsibilities towards displaced persons and refugees.
He stressed, during his meeting with the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations for Humanitarian Affairs Valerie Amos and her accompanying delegation in Erbil that "the Government of the Kurdistan has opened its doors to all displaced and refugees, since the beginning and provided all kinds of assistance to them in spite of the limited potentials."
He stressed that "the requirements of the situation is beyond the reach of the Kurdistan government, since the region in economic crisis since the beginning of this year, because Baghdad government did not send its share of the budget," urging the UN, the international community and the Iraqi government to shoulder their responsibilities.
For its part, the UN delegation, who visited camps for displaced and refugees in Dohuk, and resented its remarks about the situation of displaced and highlighted the problems they face, expressing thanks and appreciation of the United Nations and the international community to the provincial government.
The delegation commended the efforts of the region to receive the displaced and resent necessary assistance in spite of their large numbers and its limited potential.
The delegation pointed to a range of problems and difficulties faced by the displaced in terms of educational and health, expressing fear of the increasing numbers of displaced persons and refugees.
The delegation called for the international community, the donor countries and the Iraqi government to cooperate and provide greater assistance to the provincial government to enable the province to resent better services to displaced persons and refugees.
