The Gamalia court of appeal misdemeanors rejected on Tuesday a legal challenge presented by writer Eslam Beheri to suspend a one-year imprisonment verdict issued against him by the Misdemeanor Court.
Beheri, a TV host, was convicted of disdaining Islam but he tried in vain to annul the ruling through the court.
In late December, the court sentenced Beheri for “contempt of religion” for questioning Islamic beliefs on his now-suspended TV show on the Al-Qahera Wal-Nas channel.
Following the announcement of the jail verdict, he was transferred to Tora Prison compound in South Cairo to serve his sentence.
