
Spokesman for the Armed Forces Brigadier General Mohamed Samir said on Thursday that the border guards thwarted an attempt to smuggle huge amounts of arms, ammunition and drugs near the western border line.
In a statement, the spokesman said two smugglers were killed after exchanging fire with the forces.
Two trucks carrying huge amounts of weapons, ammunition and narcotic materials were destroyed in the operation, the spokesman added.
An officer and a non-commissioned officer were killed during the fire exchange, Samir added.
The border guards intensify operation near the strategic border lines to maintain security.
The spokesman expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
