Minister of Transport Saad El Giyuoshi has said an agreement was reached during a Cabinet meeting on establishing a body for transport safety.
During a press conference at the Cabinet on Wednesday, the minister said the establishment of the body aims at boosting security and safety of passengers after the problems which resulted from negligence during the past years.
He said the body is part of Abdel Fattah El Sisi's directives to pay attention to the safety and security of citizens, pointing out that the body will enjoy an independent authority to take measures against the violators including the withdrawal of licenses.
The Cabinet also discussed means to toughen up penalty against the violators including the value of fines from 500 pounds to 10,000, with the aim of reducing the number of road accidents, he added.
