The Cabinet, at its weekly session held on Monday, examined full-scale preparations for the United Nations celebratory honoring of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as "humanitarian leader," due in September.
Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Acting Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, reading a statement following the session, said, "On the occasion of His Highness' proclamation as the humanitarian leader by the United Nations, where His Highness will be honored at the United Nations headquarters in September, in what will be a distinguished historic event earned by His Highness due to his giving in the realm of philanthropic and humane activities.
"And with regard of His Highness' keenness on boosting values of giving, humane solidarity and promoting such values worldwide, where His Highness' generous hands have extended to peoples of various races and genders, reflecting the civic and humane image of the State of Kuwait and subsequent generations of the Kuwaiti community, known for passion for charitable work and keenness on giving and generosity.
"Therefore, in this respect, the cabinet examined a report about preparations by permanent committee of festivals and national occasions to celebrate the United Nations' honoring of His Highness the Amir." Moreover, the ministers were briefed by the Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah about efforts, that have been exerted by the relevant executive team, the Ministry of Information, various State institutions, as well as other establishments in addition to the cooperative societies, to prepare for the forecast event, indicating that the preparations are compatible with the high level and significance of this great occasion, highly boasted by every Kuwaiti.
Elaborating following the session, held at Seif Palace and chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abdullah said the session got underway with a briefing of a message, addressed to His Highness the Amir from Benin's President Bony Yayi, dealing with the African-American Summit, held in August in Washington, where discussions dealt with mutual cooperation between the two continents, plans for boosting (global) peace, security and investment potentials in African states. The message also touched on the good ties bonding the two friendly countries.
The ministers were briefed about a message sent to His Highness the Amir from the President of Sierra Leone, Ernest Bai Koroma, on spread of the Ebola virus in many regions of the republic and efforts' intensification to combat this epidemic. They also examined a message addressed to His Highness the Prime Minister from Bangladesh's Premier, Sheikh Hasina, on cementing further the solid bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.
On other issues, Minister of Finance Anas Al-Saleh informed the ministers about resignation of the Public Investment Authority's board member, Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf, and approved a draft decree naming Mustafa Al-Shimali as his successor.
On basis of a presentation by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Minister of Education and Acting Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Abdulmohsen Al-Madaj, the ministers approved a draft decree, naming a chairman, deputy chairman and board members of the Capital Markets Commissioners Authority.
Those who have been named to serve in these posts are Nayef Al-Hajraf, chairman, Meshaal Al-Osaimi, Deputy Chairman, Faisal Al-Fahad, member, Khalifa Al-Ajeel, member and Abdulmohsen Al-Mazidi, member.
Moreover, the Cabinet endorsed draft decrees naming Dr. Tareq Al-Shatti as General Director of the Public Authority for the Disabled, with an undersecretary's degree, Mohammad Al-Ojairi as General Director of the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority, with a degree of assistant undersecretary, Hayat Al-Muwaijed, as assistant undersecretary at the Ministry of Finance, Kamel Al-Abdul Jelil, as assistant secretary general at the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, with and assistant undersecretary's degree.
The ministers examined recommendations of the legal affairs committee, with respect of the draft law that regulates search for and seizure of unlicensed arms, ammunition and fireworks and a draft decree changing the term "housemaid" to "servant," to be compatible with texts of relevant laws. They approved the relevant draft decrees and referred them to His Highness the Amir, pending submission to the National Assembly.
The Cabinet members discussed political issues at the Arab and international levels.
