Cairo Criminal Court: MB since its establishment mixing religion with politics

President of the Cairo criminal court Shaaban al Shami said the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) group, since its establishment in 1928 at the hands of Hassan al Banna, has been mixing religion with politics to rule the country.

During a court session to try former president Mohamed Morsi and the group leaders on Tuesday, al Shami said the group sought to rule the country even at the expense of the country's future, pointing out that the group collaborated with foreign groups to achieve its goals.

Al Shami said the Egyptian political powers backed by the Armed Forces, Al Azhar and the national church, removed the group in the June 2013 Revolution after the failure of Morsi to rule the country, adding Morsi lost his post officially at the time of the revolution and that legal measures were taken against him.

He added that the court found all defendants guilty of crimes after receiving a report from the country's grand Mufti who advised with the religious edicts handing down the verdicts to them.

The Court sentenced Morsi to life in jail over charges of spying with foreign organizations, unveiling classified information about the state's national security and coordinating with Jihadists inside and outside Egypt to carry out terror attacks in Egypt.

The court also sentenced to death deputy guide of the Muslim Brotherhood organization Khairat el Shater, MB leader Mohammad Beltagui and former head of the presidential office Ahmed Abdel Attei.
