
Egypt's Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday it is closely monitoring the situation of Egyptians abducted in the Libyan city of Sirte.
"We are coordinating with the Libyan government and concerned bodies to secure their release," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Badr Abdel-Aty said in a press statement.
"The consular sector at the Ministry has set up an operation room upon the directives of Minister Sameh Shoukry to follow up constantly the circumstances of the incident," Abdel-Aty affirmed.
He added that Egyptian ambassador in Libya is in a constant communicate with officials of the Libyan government, local authorities in Sirte and sheikhs of tribes over the incident and is currently working on securing the lives of the abducted.
Libyan ambassador in Cairo is also contacting with officials for the release of the abducted, he said, noting that the ministry is constantly in contact with the families and relatives of the kidnapped to assure them that the situation will be under control soon.
