The Cassation Court ordered on Thursday the retrial of 39 Muslim Brotherhood defendants, including MB guide Mohamed Badei, in the case known in the media as Rabaa Operations Room.
The defendants have filed a challenge against the April court ruling under which the case papers of Badei and 13 others were referred to the Mufti to review their death sentence.
The other defendants were handed down life sentences.
Senior members of the terrorist group including businessman Omar Hassan Malik are among the convicts.
The defendants were accused of forming an operations room during the Rabaa Al Adaweya sit-in dispersal with the aim of spreading chaos in the country by breaking into police stations, government institutions, private property and churches.
They were accused of joining a banned group and circulating fake news with the aim of undermining public security.
Eighteen of the defendants are being tried in absentia.
