Daesh threat same in Libya, Iraq, Syria

Daesh terrorist group in Libya is the same terrorist organization in Iraq and Syria, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said Tuesday, noting the three groups constitute one threat that should be seriously handled.

At a meeting with diplomatic reporters, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid spoke of a completely secured and controlled border with Libya.

His remarks followed recent Daesh massacres in the Libyan city of Sirte.

"Sirte is far from the Egyptian borders, but a quick international action is still needed to seriously deal with this hazardous threat," Abu Zeid said.

The spokesman still acknowledged a deteriorating security situation in neighboring Libya.

Daesh's ability to control swathes of Libyan soil does ring alarm bells for all neighboring states, Abu Zeid said.

Asked about Daesh in Iraq and Syria, Abu Zeid stressed it is no different than Daesh in Libya.

Of course the international alliance had its reasons to launch operations against the group in Syria and Iraq, but Daesh's threat remains the same even in Libya and should be equally handled, the spokesman told the reporters.

Asked about a possible Arab intervention in Libya, Abu Zeid said he would rather wait to see the outcome of a meeting of representatives at the Arab League. Negotiations are still going on to form an Arab force, the diplomat noted.

"All options are on the table," he said, adding that ideas will come up on time.

Abu Zeid called for an international support for the legitimate government in Libya.

The UN Security Council should seriously consider demands of the legitimate Libyan government, particularly where a ban on arms supply is concerned, he stressed.

Egypt is for reaching a political solution to the problem in Libya as soon as possible, the spokesman told the reporters. This, he noted, should be done through implementing a plan of the international envoy for Libya.
