Dubai - Arab Today

The Dar Al Ber Society (DABS), which is committed to philanthropic work locally and abroad, is running 400 charitable and humanitarian projects in Sri Lanka.

Most of these projects are with regard to the digging of a large number of wells to provide water for drinking and other civil uses, mainly in deprived areas, according to a top official.

So many other projects are being carried out across the villages and towns of the Asian country for the benefit of disadvantaged people there, said Abdullah Ali bin Zayed, Executive Director of Dar Al Ber Society.

"The life-saving projects are in line with the humanitarian policy of the country, and directives of the UAE’s leadership to help whoever is in need anywhere in the world."

Official records show that the 37-year-old association, based in Dubai, has run some 8,000 charity projects in Sri Lanka over the last ten years, spanning the construction of houses for poor families and orphans and digging water wells.

An official delegation from the leading charity society has recently paid a nine-day visit to 104 of these projects to follow up on their development and make comments and recommendations, if needed.

"Senior staff and specialists are being dispatched on a regular basis to meet with Dar Al Ber strategic partners across the globe to be updated about the developments of the philanthropic projects being carried out and their capability to run these schemes," Ali bin Zayed stated.

The critical visits are also meant to check on the prices, specifications and designs of the ongoing and planned projects as initially proposed from the strategic partners abroad, and highlight the remarks and recommendations due, he noted.

"The delegation also met with Abdulhameed Abdulfattah Kazim Al Mulla, the UAE ambassador to Sri Lanka, to decide on the contributions forwarded to the accredited charity entities there," he said.

Dar Al Ber spares no effort to take part in relief work in co-ordination with concerned bodies at African, Asian, and European countries as directed by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, in association with the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai, he reiterated.
