
Qatar will host the 11th annual North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Conference on Weapons of Mass Destruction, Arms Control, Disarmament and Non-proliferation in Doha on Monday. Hosted by the National Committee for the Prohibition of Weapons, represented by the Doha Regional Centre for training on conventions related to disarmament of weapons of mass destruction, the event will be held under the patronage of HE Minister of State for Defense Affairs Major General Hamad bin Ali Al Attiyah.
The conference will be attended by representatives from NATO member countries, Mediterranean dialogue forum countries and the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI) between NATO and the Gulf Cooperation Council member states.
Launched in 2004, The ICI partnership seeks to develop strategic relations between countries of the region. It also aims at enhancing security and regional stability through a new cooperative engagement with the countries in the security field. It addresses common security challenges, in a way that responds to the specific needs of the countries involved.
