Dubai Chamber workshop examines legal aspects

The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted a workshop at its premises on Tuesday, to highlight the legal aspects and challenges related to managing employee relations, as well as the practical steps that companies can take to address such issues.

The workshop, which was organised in co-operation with Clyde and Co LLP, was attended by members of the Dubai Chamber, legal and human resources professionals, managers, business owners and contract specialists.

The participants were informed about the best practices in changing the terms and conditions of employment, as well as the process for handling disciplinary issues, dismissals and the transfer of employees within organisations.

The event was moderated by Rebecca Ford, Partner in Employment at Clyde and Co LLP, Ben Brown, Legal Director in Employment at Clyde and Co LLP, and Sarit Thomas, Professional Support Lawyer at Clyde and Co LLP.

Jehad Kazim, Director of Legal Services at the Dubai Chamber, said that the UAE labour market is maturing as the economy grows while explaining that companies need to be informed about the correct processes to follow in the event of disciplinary issues or dismissals.

Kazim noted that these types of interactive workshops are crucial, as they raise awareness about important legal issues and encourage companies to adopt the best practices.

During the event, Ford highlighted the best procedures and practices to be followed when carrying out a disciplinary process and provided real-life examples of the most common mistakes made by employers.

"We are increasingly seeking clients that undertake reorganisation within their business or seek to standardise terms across a group. We are commonly asked to advise clients on employee misconduct issues and how best to manage a disciplinary process," Ford added.

The Dubai Chamber regularly organises workshops and seminars that cover a wide range of legal issues, which affect the business community. These events aim to raise awareness and inform business owners and professionals about important regulatory developments.
