Egypt calls for reaching political solution to Syrian crisis

Egypt's Representative at the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hatem Abdel Qader Sunday called for reaching a political solution to the Syrian crisis and outlining a national vision to establish a pluralist democratic state.

He made the remarks during the OIC executive committee's meeting held in Jeddah to discuss the humanitarian situation in Syria and the serious escalation resulted from the great influx of Syrian refugees in the region and outside.

The OIC executive committee groups troika of the Islamic summit , namely, Egypt, Senegal and Turkey, and the foreign ministers, namely Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan as well as the OIC secretary general.

The meeting called for holding a ministerial meeting to discuss and adopt an action plan or a strategy on the refugees' situation in the OIC member states.

The attendees called on the international community, especially the UNSC, to reach a quick political solutions to the Syrian conflict and all Syrian parties to devote their efforts to achieve this goal as a way to alleviate the growing consequences of the humanitarian disaster.

The participants said the number of Syrian refugees in some of the OIC member states may exceeds seven million refugees, hailing the efforts exerted by some OIC states including, Egypt, Jordan and Turkey to take in the bulk of refugees despite their limited resources and possibilities.

The meeting appealed to the OIC member states and the related international humanitarian organizations to increase their contributions on the basis of burden-sharing.

The gathering urged the member states to offer their humanitarian assistance through the OIC within the framework of strengthening the joint Islamic work.
