Cabinet spokesman Hossam Qaweesh has said that the Egyptian government in not party in the conflict between the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and the Holding Company for Natural Gas (EGAS) on one hand and the East Mediterranean Gas Company (EMG) and Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) on the other.
The announcement followed a ruling by the international arbitration panel in Geneva, ordering Egyptian national gas companies to pay IEC $1.76b. in damages caused by the 2012 cessation in gas supply.
Qaweesh made it clear that the EGPC and EGAS will appeal the ruling and not the Egyptian government.
