Egypt sentences 104 MB supporters 7-10 years in prison

An Egyptian court on Saturday sentenced 102 supporters of ousted Islamist President Mohamed Morsi to ten years in prison over violence during protests in July 2013, state TV reported. The trial came after nearly 700 supporters of Muslim Brotherhood, from which Morsi hails, were sentenced to death on Monday, which sparkled an international outcry and raised questions over the independence of Egypt's judiciary system. According to state TV, the Cairo Criminal Court also sentenced two others to seven years in prison for using violence in last July's protests in the Cairo district of al-Daher. One citizen was killed and some private property damaged during the protests. Since the military ouster of Morsi, the first democratically- elected president in Egypt, in Julay last year, hundreds of protesters have been killed and thousands of others arrested during nationwide protests.
