Egypt's President Abdelfatah Al-Sisi on Thursday received the Speaker of the Kuwaiti National Assembly (Parliament) Marzouq Al-Ghanim, and an accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, Al-Ghanim commended Egypt's national stance supporting the State of Kuwait since the Nasser era, the Egyptian presidency spokesman Ehab Badawi said.
Al-Ghanim, also President of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), stressed the historical role Egypt played in the liberation of Kuwait, wishing the country progress and prosperity. He expressed appreciation that Egypt considers security of the Gulf a part of its own national security, lauding the country's understanding of the hard human conditions of the Palestinian people in Gaza.
For his part, President Al-Sisi highlighted appreciation to the support by the State of Kuwait to Egypt so that the country can restore regional leadership, the Badawi said.
The efforts that have to be exerted over the coming period should target maintaining the "security of our countries and our people, side by side with defending true Islam, correcting its image that was tarnished and came to be connected with terrorism," Al-Sisi was quoted as saying during the meeting.
