Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hossam Moghazi said on Saturday that Egypt will conduct a new study on the spillways of the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, which will allow the flow of water to the downstream countries: Egypt and Sudan.
"The study will determine Egypt's stance on the number of spillways in the dam, which are required to guarantee the flow of water," Moghazi said in statements.
"The results of the study will be included in a report that will be referred to an upcoming meeting of the foreign and irrigation ministers of Sudan, Egypt and Ethiopia," he said.
The minister pointed out that a technical presentation was given during a recent meeting of the experts of the Ethiopian dam, which revealed new information about the design of the dam and the backup spillways.
"The information was all-new to the Egyptian side," he said.
"Ethiopia claimed that the number of spillways was enough to allow the flow of water," Moghazi added.
However, the minister informed the meeting that the issue of the spillways should be discussed at the level of the six-way meeting.
