The Egyptian Embassy in Kuwait ended on Wednesday counting votes in the runoff elections of the second round of parliamentary elections.

Representatives from the embassy, Higher Elections Committee, candidates together with members of the Egyptian community in Kuwait took part in the counting of the votes following the end of the balloting process at 9:00 p.m. Tuesday.

The count results were sent to the Higher Elections Committee.

Egyptian Ambassador to Kuwait Yasser Atef told MENA that 2,700 Egyptians in Kuwait cast their votes in the runoffs, a small number compared to the 6,700 who voted in the first stage of second round.

A total of 37,141 Egyptian expatriates voted in the first round of the second phase that took place on Monday and Tuesday.

Voting was the highest in Saudi Arabia with a turnout of 30.4 percent, followed by 18.3 percent in Kuwait and 12.7 percent in the United Arab Emirates.

Some 426 candidates are competing over 213 seats out of 222 seats contested in the second stage.

Nine seats have already been secured in the first round. All list-based seats were won by For the Love of Egypt.
