Assistant Foreign Minister for Sudan and South Sudan Affairs Ahmed Fadel Yacoub said Thursday that the medical and humanitarian aid sent from the Egyptian Defense Ministry to South Sudan came upon directives from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi which highlight the depth of bilateral relations.
This aid represent a message to the South Sudanese people that highlighted Egypt's supportive policies to South Sudan in light of the deep historic ties binding the two nations even before the independence of the African country in 2011.
The Egyptian aircraft arrived at Juba International Airport on Wednesday loaded with 15 tons of medical and humanitarian aid.
Yacoub underlined that Egypt wishes that peace and stability prevail in South Sudan, adding that the aid comes to manifest ongoing joint cooperation in various fields as well as the developmental projects.
Egypt still receives thousands of South Sudanese who come to study in its universities.
The two countries prepare for cooperation projects in the fields of health, electricity and digging wells, the diplomat reiterated.
Yacoub further stressed the importance of promoting investments of the Egyptian firms in South Sudan.
Egypt backs the South Sudanese people and their transitional cabinet which prepares for a comprehensive national dialogue announced by the South Sudanese President Salva Kiir, the diplomat affirmed, adding that Egypt supports the dialogue.
