Egypt's governorates gear up for celebrations of New Suez Canal opening

Egypt's governorates made special preparations on the occasion of the official inauguration of the New Suez Canal on August 6.

Several meetings are being held to put the final touches for the celebrations marking the opening of the New Suez Canal.

Big screens will be erected in the squares of each governorate. Youths and cultural palaces will join the citizens' celebrations in this event, which will be a turning point in Egypt's modern history.

In Assiut governorate, Governor Yasser el Dessouki said that a big celebration will be held in Assuit before the official opening of the New Suez Canal.

Meanwhile, a number of youths in the governorate announced the launch of a new "hashtag" on the social networking websites under the rubric "Assuit is rejoicing" to express the happiness of Assiut residents.

In Suez governorate, Governor El Arabi el Serwi said that the guidance building which is affiliated to the Suez Canal in Port Tawfik was decorated with flags in preparation of the opening of the New Suez Canal.

Meanwhile, Damietta governorate held a public rally on Wednesday which roamed the streets of the governorate. Participants, including Damietta governor Ismail Abdel Hamid, chanted slogans and national songs.

The celebrations will continue until the end of the coming week, the governor said, adding that a program for celebrations was prepared.
