
An emergency meeting on the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, which is called for by the Palestinian Red Crescent Society and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent, kicked off here TUesday with the participation of Kuwait.
Deputy Chairman of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) Anwar Al-Hasawi said in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the State of Kuwait participates in the meeting to assess the needs of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and display its humanitarian role, represented by the KRCS to provide assistance to the needy people there.
Al-Hasawi stressed the importance of the meeting in coordinating efforts to mitigate the effects of the disaster that has befallen the Palestinian people as a result of the Israeli aggression, which runs for nearly four weeks.
He pointed out that the total support that was provided to the sector until now stand at USD 11 million, nine of which was granted by the government, whereas USD two million have been collected from the people of Kuwait.
He explained that the State of Kuwait has so far provided four batches of food and relief aid to the people of the sector in the framework of the field humanitarian efforts in an effort to reduce the consequences of the effects of the humanitarian disaster on the Palestinian people.
He said that the Kuwaiti relief aid provided to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip since the Israeli aggression included mobile hospitals, shelters, medicines, medical supplies, food, fuel and blankets.
