Upon the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), the ERC offered the financial support worth Dh2 million to the second Zayed Charity Marathon, which will be held in Cairo on Friday.
The proceeds of the event will be allocated to patients of hepatitis.
The gala marathon will be held at the Air Defence Stadium, Cairo, under the patronage of President of Egypt, Abdel Fatah el-Sisi and under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and under the supervision of the higher organisation committee in conjunction with the National Olympics Committee, Coordination Committee for the UAE-Funded Projects in Egypt, the UAE Embassy in Cairo, and competent Egyptian institutions.
Dr. Hamdan Mussalam Al Mazroouei , Chairman of the ERC Board said the directives of Sheikh Hamdan to support the Zayed Charity Marathon "come in line with the spirit of the marathon, which carries the name of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's name and embodies the humanitarian principles and values he had advocated during his lifetime."
He added that the coincidence of the event with the charitable side of the marathon reflects the close link between the humanitarian work and the national initiatives undertaken by the people of this generous country.
For his part, Dr. Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi, Secretary-General of the ERC commended the Marathon, which bears the name of Sheikh Zayed and embodies the charity work.
