An appeal court in Cairo decided on Thursday to not accept an appeal that was filed earlier by writer Fatima Naoot after the misdemeanor court sentenced her to three years in prison over blasphemy charges.
Naoot did not attend today's court session.
Egypt's law requires the defendants to attend the appeal court session in order to accept their appeals.
Earlier, the misdemeanor court sentenced Naoot to three years in prison as well as paying 20,000 pounds as a fine after posting a tweet that the prosecution considered a contempt of religion.
