The High Election Commission (HEC) said Tuesday that the first day for candidates to apply to run in the upcoming parliamentary elections went smoothly in all governorates.
It was a bit overcrowded at some committees in the beginning of the day but order was soon restored with the help of candidates themselves and judges overseeing the process, said Counselor Omar Marwan, the official spokesman for the HEC.
The turnout was average in general, Marwan said, adding that the HEC will inform the media about the number of candidates on the next day.
The turnout was normal in Sinai, Aswan and Mersa Matrouh, he noted.
The HEC had sent a committee to examine candidacy applications in North Sinai, Marwan said.
