Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ghanim bin Fadhul Al-Buainain, addressing the Syrian Refugee Situation Conference, stressed Bahrain's great interest in providing all forms of support for Syrian refugees, in line with the directives of Bahrain's leadership led by HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
The event today was held in Germany, in the presence of German Foreign Minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Arab League Sec-Gen, Dr. Nabil Elaraby.
Foreign State Minister highlighted efforts made by the Royal Charity Organization (RCO) in promoting Syrian refugees, and its projects implemented there, including drilling a number of wells in collaboration with UNICEF in Zarqa Governorate, Jordan, at a cost of $800.000 to provide the Syrian refugees with clean water, building four schools in Zaatari Camp and providing educational services for 9561 students, and the establishment of residential complex to accommodate more than 3000 Syrian refugees.
He noted the limitless support provided by Bahrain for Syrian refugees in Jordan, which also extended to cover Syrian refugees in Turkey, who were visited by RCO Chairman, Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to help them with necessary assistance to alleviate their suffering.
He pointed out partnerships and cooperation agreements established between RCO and a number of international organizations concerned with refugees, including the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
He underscored the significant role played by Bahrain Red Crescent Society in responding to the Syrian refugees crisis and in canvassing support from GCC Red Crescent organisations.
He praised Syria's neighboring countries' efforts in hosting large numbers of refugees, particularly Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey, extending appreciation to Kuwait for hosting two international donors conferences in 2013 and 2014, when donations were contributed to alleviating the suffering of Syrian refugees.
He underlined developing a political solution leads to the formation of a transitional government to alleviate the Syrian refugees' suffering, calling on Security Council to shoulder responsibilities to reach a ceasefire in Syria, and to secure humanitarian aid consignments to the Syrian people in Syrian and neighboring countries.
He wished the UN Envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, a successful mission to regain Syria's stability.
