Kuwaitis throughout their history have been known to contribute to those who are less fortunate and disadvantaged in Muslim countries and elsewhere, said Minister of Justice, Awqaf, and Islamic Affairs Yaqoub Al-Sanea, opening here on Wednesday a forum honoring senior endowers.
Funds from Kuwaiti endowments (usually religious in nature) have been put to use in the most admirable fashion all over the world in the construction of schools, mosques, religious institutions to teach Islam, and in helping the needy face the hardships of daily sustenance, said the minister to the attendees of the forum including 26 honorees whose endowments have helped many people around the world.
He praised the 26 endowers for their generosity and in setting a bright example for others who could endow a portion of their wealth to the ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs to use it for the common good of needy Muslims and others everywhere.
In a similar address to the forum, Dr. Abdulmuhsen Al-Kharafi, of the general secretariat at the ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affair, said that honoring the 26 senior endowers was an important event in view of the fact that they represented a very long line of such philanthropists in this country who have always sought to help others less fortunate than themselves.
This year's forum was held under the auspices of His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
The attendees were shown a film featuring the history of religious endowment in Kuwait and an exhibition on calligraphy was also organized on the sideline of the forum.
