The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)
Riyadh - KUNA

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Foreign Ministers on Thursday reiterated their support to legitimacy in Yemen, represented by President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.
Qatari Foreign Minister Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah rejected in a speech at the opening of the GCC Foreign Ministers 134th session in Riyadh today, all measures to impose a fait accompli policy in Yemen.
Al-Attiyah, chair of the meeting, urged the political powers and parties in Yemen to carry on with the political process in line with the GCC Initiative and the outcome of the National Dialogue.
He also welcomed the initiative by Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud to host the coming round of the Yemenis National Dialogue in Riyadh, under the GCC umbrella.
On Syria, the Qatari chief diplomat urged the international community, with the UN and the International Security Council on top, to rapidly and effectively interfere to end the tragedy of the Syrian people and secure delivery of aid to them, both at home and abroad.
Meanwhile, Al-Attiyah said that the GCC welcomed the national dialogue for stakeholders in Libya, hoping they would conclude a political formula that offers all Libyans equal rights, with no exclusion or marginalization, or foreign intervention.
Referring to Iran's nuclear program, Al-Attiyah renewed the GCC stance calling for a Middle East free of nuclear weapons. However, he stressed the rights by countries of the region to own nuclear experience in line with the criteria set by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
He urged Tehran to conform with the IAEA relevant criteria for the security and stability in the region.
On the Palestinian issue, the Qatari Foreign Minister urged the international community to work for an end to the Israeli occupation and help realize the expectations of the Palestinian people in an independent state with Eastern Jerusalem its capital.
According to Al-Attiyah , past peace talks were a failure because of excessive focus on procedural issues and partial solutions. Just and comprehensive has not been realized.
He urged the UNSC to take the necessary measures to end the Israeli occupation and establish a Palestinian state in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the international legitimacy, especially the Arab Initiative.
The GCC Foreign Minister then started a closed-door meeting to discuss the topic son the session agenda, attended by Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
