The legislative affairs committee of the Gulf Cooperation Council's (GCC) parliaments opened its maiden meeting on Sunday in the framework of the conference of the speakers of the GCC legislatures.
The State of Kuwait is represented at the two-meeting by Chairman of the Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee of the National Assembly Mubarak Al-Harees and rapporteur of the committee Yaqoub Al-Sane'.
The meeting was convened pursuant to a suggestion by Oman Shura Council which was approved by the sixth meeting of the speakers of the GCC national assemblies and Shura councils in Kuwait on November 24-25, 2013.
The conferees discussed the draft statute regulating the future activities of the GCC legislative committee as a prelude to tabling the draft to the eighth meeting of the speakers of the GCC legislatures for final endorsement, Oman News Agency (ONA) reported.
The nine-point draft sets forth the organizational format, leadership hierarchy and mandate of the committee and its secretariat.
