Head of Gharbiya Security Directorate Osama Bedir denied on Saturday news reports saying that a citizen was assaulted inside Tanta police station for belonging to a terrorist group.
He said such news reports were unfounded, urging media outlets to be more accurate not to create confusion.
This came when Mahmoud el-Laithy said in a TV program that he was seized and assaulted in Tanta police station for belonging to a terrorist group.
Bedir said that what happened was that security forces of the police station heard fireworks so they headed to a passing-by motorcade that celebrated a wedding when the persons who were firing the fireworks verbally attacked the forces that seized them and dragged them to the police station.
A probe was also launched into the incident, Bedir concluded.
