Habib el-Adly acquittal verdict challenged at Cassation Court

Egypt's illicit Gains Authority (IGA) decided to challenge verdicts issued earlier by a criminal court to acquit Mubarak-era interior minister Habib el Adly of influence peddling charges.
The IGA asked the Cassation Court to challenge the ruling in the light of evidences presented by the authority.
The Illicit Gains Authority had referred Adly to the Criminal Court after he was suspected of having amassed EGP 181 million through corrupt activities as the fortune does not commensurate with his legal income.
The indictment stated that Adly fraudulently accrued wealth during the period of August 1961 to January 2011, taking advantage of his influence as head of Egypt’s State Security and then as Minister of Interior.
