Hamas said Monday it takes a positive stance regarding municipality elections.
In a statement, the Islamist movement hoped elections would be a step towards unifying the Palestinians.
The announcement came following a meeting between Hamas leaders and their counterparts in a number of other Palestinian factions, including the Islamic Jihad, the popular front and the democratic front, the statement added.
On Tuesday, the Palestinian cabinet set October 8 for municipality elections in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and Al Quds.
