Director of Traffic Operations and Control at the General Directorate of Traffic Colonel Ali Al Nuaimi has announced the arrest of a hit and run accident suspect on Salmabad road, in which pedestrians sustained serious injuries on Wednesday.
He said that evidence collected from the crime scene led to the arrest of the suspect within three hours of the occurrence of the case.
He urged drivers to stop when they are involved in traffic accidents, especially if there are wounded people, stressing that fleeing the accident scene is a violation according to article 69 of the traffic law that stipulates that an "imprisonment of no more than six months and a fine of no more than BD100 or any of the two penalties" shall be the penalty inflicted on violators.
He said that such irresponsible acts could worsen situations as drivers should rescue or transfer the injured to the hospital instead of running away.
He thanked the public for their cooperation in providing information that led to the arrest of the suspect.
