A senior Yemeni Army officer was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED), which was planted in his vehicle in Aden Governorate, south of Yemen, Yemen's Defense Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.
The IED exploded in the car of Brigadier Ahmed Mohammed Saleh al-Omari, logistics and supplies officer of the third military region, killing him and wounding his son, and another man in Aden's Al-Mansura district, the statement added.
The ministry accused Al-Qaeda of killing the officer, stressing that perpetrators will be held to account, noted the statement.
Meanwhile, two soldiers were killed and seven others injured in an ambush that targeted a military patrol on the road between two cities in Hadramout, east of Yemen, a security source said.
Armed men, likely from al-Qaeda, exploded an IED planted on the road side when the patrol was crossing, killing the two conscripts and wounding seven others, the source added.
The army and al-Qaeda have been clashing over more than two months after al-Qaeda militants attacked governmental, military and banks targets.
