
Five Sudanese illegal immigrants were killed and six others injured as they attempted to sneak from the west to the east through the international borders between Israel and Egypt, said Army Spokesman Brigadier-General Mohamed Samir.
Forces securing the border area spotted at dawn an attempt by a number of people to sneak from the west to the east through the international borders and under the supervision of human traffickers, he said.
Immediately, security forces fired warning shots and moved to arrest the infiltrators, who in turn opened fire on the forces, he said, adding that one of the conscripts was critically injured in his back.
The spokesmen added that five Sudanese migrants were arrested.
All the injured were rushed to the hospital to receive the the necessary treatment.
The incident was referred to investigation bodies to take the necessary measures and pursue and arrest the involved criminal elements.
