
The 16th session of the executive committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union's (AIPU) meetings has kicked off here, in Khartoum, focusing on exerting more efforts to establish security and prosperity in the Arab world.
Head of AIPU executive committee Kuwaiti MP Faisal Al-Shaya said, in his opening speech at the event on Thursday, that the performance of AIPU should be constantly improving in order to better represent and defend Arab causes at international parliamentary events.
Al-Shaya, who is also head of the Kuwaiti parliamentary committee, said that the AIPU has introduced a number of reforms in the past years which helped remarkable improve its performance under the chairmanship of Nouraldin Bouchkouj.
He expressed hope that this session will achieve its desired goals and will strengthen bonds of cooperation between Arab nations.
On his part, Speaker of Sudan's National Assembly Dr. Al-Fatih Izz Al-Deen stressed the importance of activating joint Arab action in order to combat challenges that face the Arab nations.
He also urged to unify Arab efforts to support the Palestinian cause.
